In the fall of 2022, Hurricane Fiona devastated the southeast coast of Puerto Rico. Our executive director, Marco Benjamin, immediately sprang into action in Manaubo, providing essential aid such as food, shelter, fuel for generators, and assistance with FEMA applications for the affected residents and surrounding farms.
Through this experience, we recognized that disasters are critical times not only for immediate kindness and compassion but also for addressing ongoing needs like medical transportation, food affordability, and housing support, especially for those living with HIV. Disasters can be particularly challenging for individuals in the LGBTQ community due to potential unkindness in shelters.
This realization led to the establishment of A Positive Impact, an organization dedicated to supporting individuals living with and at risk for HIV/AIDS/STIs consistently. Disaster preparedness has become a crucial component of our mission.
We invite you to join us in caring for communities, extending our impact not only in Puerto Rico but also in Florida and South Carolina. Together, let's make a positive impact on lives every day.
